Most founders raise
the wrong capital.

Selling equity for something a loan could fund is the most expensive mistake a founder makes. Canary carries every rung of the ladder — and helps you choose the right one before you dilute.

Thesis

Financing is a sequence, not a single decision.

A company's capital needs change every year, but the industry sells it one product at a time — a bank here, a revenue-financing app there, a debt fund, a venture firm. Canary already sits at the center of that picture, so we can carry a founder through the whole sequence as one relationship. Equity becomes the top of a ladder, not the first thing anyone reaches for.

Canary Ventures is being formed. Figures below are stated intent — not an offer of credit, securities, or investment.
The continuum

Five instruments, in order of cost to your ownership.

Every rung lives inside Canary. As you grow, you climb it without switching platforms — and equity is a choice, not a default.

Focus

We invest close to what we build.

In these sectors our help is worth more than the check — distribution, rails, and the operating experience of a working fintech.

Fintech infrastructure

Payments, banking-as-a-service, lending rails, and the compliance and risk tooling underneath them.

Applied AI

Vertical copilots and agentic workflows for real businesses — and the data plumbing that makes them work.

Real estate & proptech

Transaction software, investor tooling, and the financing that moves property markets.

Vertical SaaS

Software that becomes the system of record for an industry, then earns the right to move its money.

The edge

The deal flow is already inside the house.

A standalone fund competes for access; Canary earns it as a byproduct. The companies borrowing and applying for funding on the platform are the pipeline — and we see their revenue and repayment behavior long before a pitch deck exists. Real signal for underwriting, and the warmest possible introduction to founders already proving themselves on our rails.

Questions

Founder FAQ.

The questions founders ask us most. Canary Ventures is being formed, so the answers below describe our intended approach — not an offer of credit, securities, or investment.

What is Canary Ventures?
It is the early-stage investing arm at the top of Canary's capital continuum. Where a bank or a single financing product solves one need, Canary aims to carry a founder through the whole sequence — working capital, revenue-based financing, venture debt, and finally equity — as one relationship. The equity arm is being formed and is not yet deploying capital.
What stages and check sizes do you invest in?
Our stated intent is pre-seed through Series A, with checks of roughly $250K to $2M. We plan to lead or co-invest depending on the round. These figures describe our intended approach and may change.
Do you lead rounds, or only follow?
Either. We intend to lead when we can be the most useful investor on the cap table, and to co-invest alongside other funds when a round is already coming together.
Which sectors do you focus on?
Four, where our help is worth more than the check: fintech infrastructure, applied AI, real estate and proptech, and vertical SaaS. In these areas our distribution, rails, and operating experience as a working fintech add the most value.
Do I need a warm introduction?
No. Use the pitch form on this page — every submission is read by a partner. A warm intro never hurts, but it is not required to reach us.
How quickly will I hear back?
A partner aims to give a first read within about a week — a yes, a no, or a specific question. We would rather reply quickly, even when the answer is no, than leave you waiting.
What does your process look like?
Four steps: you submit through the form; a partner gives a first read within about a week; if there is a fit we run fast, transparent diligence (a working call, references, and a look at the numbers); then terms and the real work — introductions, hiring help, and Canary's own rails.
I need debt or working capital, not equity — can you still help?
Yes, and often that is the better answer. Selling equity for something a loan could fund is one of the costliest mistakes a founder makes. Canary carries every rung of the ladder, so we can point you to working capital, revenue-based financing, or venture debt before anyone reaches for equity. You keep your ownership.
What do you look for in a company?
A strong team, a real and growing market, and genuine signal — traction, revenue, or a product customers pull for. Because many companies borrow and apply for funding on the Canary platform, we often see real revenue and repayment behavior long before a pitch deck exists, and we weigh that heavily.
How is this different from a traditional VC?
A standalone fund competes for access; Canary earns it as a byproduct of the platform. Founders already on our rails are the pipeline, we have real underwriting signal from their activity, and we can offer more than one financing instrument — not just an equity check.
Do you take a board seat, and how involved are you?
We are founder-first: involvement is sized to be helpful, not controlling, and board participation is decided case by case with the founder. Our goal is to be the call you actually want to make between meetings.
Where are the companies you back located?
Our focus is primarily on companies serving the US market, but we evaluate opportunities on their merits rather than by a strict geographic rule. Sector fit and the strength of the team matter most.
Can I invest alongside Canary as an individual?
A member syndicate for accredited investors to co-invest alongside Canary is something we are exploring, but it is held back pending securities review. Nothing here is an offer or solicitation to invest.
Is submitting a pitch a commitment, and is any of this an offer?
No on both counts. Submitting a pitch records your details for the Canary Ventures team and creates no commitment on either side. Nothing on this page is an offer or solicitation to buy or sell a security, an offer of credit, or investment, legal, or tax advice. Canary is a technology platform, not a bank, broker-dealer, or investment adviser.
